Do I Even Want to Know

Hamish Wilson

Do I Even Want to Know and Still Waiting are based on my own struggles with overthinking as well as isolation. Both works depict a central figure feeling isolated or stuck in a cycle of overthinking. Feeling as if the space they are in can’t be escaped through their own efforts rather through external influences, such as finding the answers to questions that may not actually benefit them or waiting on someone else to solve their problems.

Through my artistic practice I explore themes of loneliness, self perception, relationships and masculinity. The aim for my work is to be easily accessible and evoke an empathetic connection from the audience.

My influences include Ben Quilty, Emilio Villalba and Eric Stefanski, an artist who works primarily with text, among others.
