LIGHT SPANS

Savannah Barnes

Swallow the moonlight,

expose the emptiness

what does it mean

when the stars crumble in pieces?

How does one make peace

with a barren sky burying

the sun in his secrets?

Did galaxies move to comfort him

as his screams travelled light-years,

to reach the Earth where he bleeds.

From the mouth of volcanic rock,

bathing the ground in sunshine tears

to wash down the moonlight
