We here at ScratchThat publish content in our fortnightly Newsletter, as well as here on the website, and our printed zine!

We welcome submissions from everyone–whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting your creative journey, a student, a professional, or simply someone passionate about creativity.

ScratchThat’s theme this edition is Lore.

Fairytale & Folklore

There’s something in the trees. A flicker of light, warm and soft, inviting you into its arms. 

The woodland comes alive. Pixies dart between trees. Nature spirits peel themselves from bark and splash in rivers. In the distance, castle turrets touch the bright, endless sky, home to true and just nobility. Dragons soar between clouds. A young girl dressed in red wanders forest paths. 

Fairytales beckon the weary traveller, offering sweetness, refreshment, and safety marked by a campfire’s light. There’s magic everywhere you look, if only you open your mind.

Mythos & Legend

There’s something in the trees. A flicker of shadow, cold and blurred, running towards you. 

The ruins lie still. Crumbling columns and broken tiles. The remnants of civilisations lost. Manors squat in the overgrowth, long abandoned. The old gods and heroes are praised no more. Were these people lost to time, or did something wipe them from memory? Forgotten creatures wander the world while their unknowable masters slumber beneath the earth. 

The myths offer only warnings of what must be left undisturbed. There’s magic everywhere you turn, once you force your mind to see. How did it ever stay hidden?

  • ScratchThat will only consider previously unpublished content.
  • Each submission will go through our Editorial Board and Copyediting team before being published.
  • ScratchThat will not publish work with disrespectful language. Do not include racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise bigoted content unless the theme is destroying that discrimination.
  • Profanity, sexual content, and nudity (in artwork) can be included but must be appropriate for the magazine. All work will be evaluated for suitability.
