by Regan Chern

Only for the fear of kings,
I would forever look down,
To never hear a seraph sing.
I’m haunted by the thoughts they bring,
These tempests seek a crown –
Only for the fear of kings.
Forever deadly is their hymn,
Storms chant in a discordant round,
To never hear a seraph sing.
My freedom is that I do not cling,
To the empty bottle of their sound,
Only for the fear of kings.
But knowing better does not win,
We stand to lose the world abound,
To never hear a seraph sing.
I sit complicit, holding out this drink,
Though we may forget it, sing it loud,
Only for the fear of kings,
To never hear a seraph sing.
