By Cameron Scott

Breath creeps in
Evading white guardians
Slithering ever downwards
Blackened lungs scream
Silent grieving lips
Leak caustic air
Putrid breeze intrudes
Worming within alveoli
Oxydising voided blood
Corroding tender flesh
Revealing petrified omens
Ligaments embracing bone
Decomposing maternal instincts
Hallowed eyes reach
Embracing uninhabited offspring
Breathing his last
Relinquishing his soul
Resting his limbs
Artist Statement
La Douleur is a portrait based on the statue of the same name on the grave of Robert Didsbury which depicts a mother weeping for her deceased son. It was developed by building layers of patterns and designs over hours of creation using felt-tip pens on paper. La Douleur represents the experience of being captured in a moment of time and having the height of grief carved into the temporarily eternal. She is captured by the stone, captured by the photograph, captured by the artist’s pen, and captured by your eye. She has become a part of this moment for you.

Hi, I’m Sailor! But to know me a bit better I’m Rory Gilmore, Hermione Granger, Susan Pevensie and Belle. I adore reading fantasy and queer romance novels and I love to write them too. If I’m not reading or writing, you’ll find me doing some copywriting for my super-cool jewellery job, interning at a local publishing house or working on the latest issue of ScratchThat. As long as I have a cup of tea and some Ludovico Einaudi, I’m ready to write!
