Ophelia in Blue

by Ava Ryan

Watercolour | A4

The character Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, is a figure frequently depicted by artists. These works often focus on her fragility and the beauty of her naked form. In this piece, I wanted to focus on her surroundings, drawing attention to the beauty, danger, and symbolism represented by the water.  Ophelia’s body is not the focus in this artwork; instead, it serves as an exploration of the darkness that led to her death and the supernatural elements inhabiting the world around her.
