Recently, I have been exploring the use of portraiture as a means of not only improving my skills as an artist, but also to challenge my own perception of myself and conventional beauty. Growing up as a person of colour in a predominantly white society, I have always felt far from the beauty standard. Creating these portraits, in a way, has helped absolve that self-hatred, allowing me to embrace the beauty in my own uniqueness.
