Spiralling

Kianna Jane

Content Warnings: Depression

This piece explores the feelings of dread, depression, and regret. These intense emotions can send you into a spiral, feeling lost and stuck. My aim with this piece was to make people feel seen by capturing these raw and confronting emotions, in both an implied and a literal sense. The choice of colour for this piece signifies depression, “feeling blue”. The woman is terrified, and anxious. This is apparent by the expression on her face, her glazed over eyes and her gaping mouth. Lastly, the spiral in the background is a very literal representation of the feeling of “spiralling”. She feels caught in the spiral, like she can’t get out. It feels never- ending, but I promise it’s not.

Artist: Brisbane-based artist, Kianna Jane (she/her), has been passionate about art her entire life. For her, it’s a way to connect with both her own and others’ emotions and say things words can’t always explain. She loves exploring the depth of human emotion through her art. Kianna’s preferred medium is acrylic paint, however she loves experimenting with new mediums and challenging herself.
